CANADA’S FIRST LASER TREATMENT CHAIN OFFERS QUIT-SMOKING SOLUTION WITH 85-95% SUCCESS RATE

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

TORONTO – May 1, 2008 …. Canadian Laser and Pain Therapy (CLPT) Canada’s first low intensity laser therapy (LILT) pain and stop smoking solution clinic, today announced that their QUICK STOP SOLUTION™, currently empowering patients to break free of smoking at their Burlington and Stoney Creek locations, has now expanded with two downtown Toronto clinics.

The clinics, located in the downtown Toronto location of St. Clair/Yonge and midtown location of Bloor/Christie, are the first Canadian licensees to offer the QUICK STOP SOLUTION, with many more locations set to open across the country.

Using a painless laser light, the QUICK STOP SOLUTION stimulates acupuncture points on the ear, hand and knee to eliminate nicotine cravings in chronic smokers and help reset their metabolism to minimize the unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal. Low intensity laser (LILT) treatment is FDA approved in the United States to treat a variety of chronic pain conditions including osteoarthritis, lower back pain (caused by inflammation), rotator cuff injuries, plantar fasciitis etc. The program is conducted under strict FDA guidelines and CLPT reports patient results on a monthly basis.

“Thousands of Canadians will struggle to quit smoking this summer. We can make it significantly easier by offering a painless, effective and proven technology to curb smoking cravings,” said Dr. Paul Ziemer, President and CEO of Canadian Laser and Pain Therapy. “We’ve seen consistent success rates of 85-95 percent and many patients require only 2 QUICK STOP SOLUTION sessions to break free of their habit, regardless of how many years they have been light or chronic smokers.”

At a cost of $395, the QUICK STOP SOLUTION™ is partially covered by many employee health plans.

New report on global tobacco control efforts

The World Health Organization has released a new report on global tobacco control efforts.

“…not a single country fully implements all key tobacco control measures, and outlined an approach that governments can adopt to prevent tens of millions of premature deaths by the middle of this century.”

In this report the WHO finds that only 5% of the worlds population lives in a country which fully protect their population with any one of the key measures that reduce smoking rates. These statistics are quite surprising. To find out more read the news release on the WHO site.
